Start at the detergent cup
This category covers the spring in the detergent-dispenser mechanism. It does not cover the larger springs balancing the main dishwasher door. Supplier names such as door spring, actuator spring and detergent cup spring can overlap. Use the complete model and diagram position to establish the part identity instead of relying on the short title alone.
Compare three distinct references: WP3368999 for the actuator/drawbar mechanism, WP8066018 for the detergent lid, and GE WD3X764 for the detergent cup door. The first two can appear in one dispenser diagram as separate items; they are not substitutes. WP3368999 records the older number 3368999 and newly corroborated Whirlpool models, but Kenmore 66517795790 still has one publisher only.
Rule out an obstruction first
Check whether a dish, pan or utensil prevents the dispenser door from opening during the cycle. Follow the appliance manual for cleaning detergent residue around accessible areas. Do not force the latch or add lubricant without manufacturer instructions. An intact spring cannot compensate for a blocked lid, and replacing a spring will not address every cause of undissolved detergent.
If the lid or linkage is visibly damaged, record where the damage occurs. The spring, actuator, latch and complete dispenser can be separate diagram items. Confirm which component is serviceable for your full model before ordering one based on a generic repair video.
Keep access within the model instructions
Disconnect power before inspection. Separating the main door panels can expose wiring and sharp edges, so use qualified service when access or diagnosis is uncertain. This page helps identify the correct component; it is not a universal procedure for opening a dishwasher door or adjusting the dispenser timing.
Take a precise question to the retailer
Provide the complete model, dispenser diagram item and exact spring reference. Ask the retailer to confirm that combination and the package quantity. The WD3X764 record retains numeric Kenmore models exactly as its catalogs write them; our search does not invent dotted alternatives. Review source dates and return restrictions before purchase. If dishes remain dirty but the dispenser opens normally, follow the spray-arm troubleshooting guide before selecting a spring. A wash-performance problem can begin elsewhere in the water path, so treat the observed symptom and the part identity as separate checks.
Before you choose
Does appearing in this category confirm my model?
No. Check the complete model on the individual part page. A shared family, brand or part type does not establish fit.
What if my model is missing?
Our catalog is a reviewed subset. Keep the full suffix and ask the retailer to confirm the exact diagram item. An unlisted model is unknown, not a confirmed mismatch.
