Identify before ordering

Dishwasher door springs

Identify a dishwasher main-door balance spring and distinguish it from cables, hinges and detergent-dispenser springs.

Category membership does not confirm fit. Keep the complete model suffix when you search.

Which door is affected?

This category concerns the main dishwasher door that opens toward the floor. A small spring operating the detergent cup belongs to the separate dispenser category. Retailer titles sometimes shorten both to door spring, so identify the location in the diagram before comparing numbers. A problem with the soap cup is not evidence that the main-door spring needs replacement.

The separate references are Whirlpool WP8270020, GE WD03X20445 and Frigidaire 154579101. Reviewed examples include KUDS01DJSS0 for WP8270020, ADT521PGF0BS for WD03X20445 and BGHD2433KB0 for 154579101. The model lists are reviewed subsets, not complete brand catalogs. Follow your full model and diagram; spring length, finish or a shared appliance brand is not enough.

Look at the balance system as a whole

A door that feels unusually heavy or falls open may involve a spring, connecting cable, mounting point or hinge. The symptom does not tell you which item to buy. Support the door and keep hands away from pinch points. Avoid repeated opening if the door cannot be controlled safely, and arrange an inspection of the balance system.

A cable kit and a spring may appear beside each other in a parts diagram, but they are separate ordering decisions. Verify the damaged component, diagram position and quantity. Do not use a visually similar spring or change tension by improvising a mounting point.

Check access and the appliance installation

Disconnect power before inspection and follow the model instructions. Door-balance parts can be under tension, and access can involve a built-in appliance with water, electrical and drain connections. Pulling the dishwasher out without an appropriate procedure can create additional problems. Use qualified service if the inspection requires uncertain disconnection or handling of loaded springs.

Before ordering a replacement

Record the complete model, the existing part reference if readable, and the exact diagram item. Ask the retailer whether the spring is sold singly and whether other hardware is required for the intended repair. A matching length or color is not adequate fit evidence. Check the source links on the part record, confirm any missing revision with the retailer and review installed-part returns. Keep the main-door diagnosis separate from poor wash results, detergent residue or a dispenser lid that stays closed; those issues have their own checks and may need a different part entirely.

Before you choose

Does appearing in this category confirm my model?

No. Check the complete model on the individual part page. A shared family, brand or part type does not establish fit.

What if my model is missing?

Our catalog is a reviewed subset. Keep the full suffix and ask the retailer to confirm the exact diagram item. An unlisted model is unknown, not a confirmed mismatch.
