Kenmore serial number decoder

Read a supported manufacture date code. Repeated years remain uncertain.

Enter the appliance label

Your serial stays in this browser. It is not sent to our server or added to a shareable link.

The serial example is from the Parts Dr guide. The model illustrates a Kenmore manufacturer prefix; the pairing is not an appliance ownership or fit record.

Start with two different numbers

  1. Find the accessible identification label. Copy the complete model, including its prefix and revision, then the separate serial. The name on the front may only identify a series.
  2. Select the appliance type. This tool uses the model prefix to choose a manufacturer’s date rule, then checks the serial format before reading it.
  3. Compare the result with a manufacture date printed on the label or confirmed by manufacturer support. A purchase date may be later than production.
  4. Follow the model search to review documented parts and their sources. If nothing matches, check the spelling and suffix or ask the retailer to review the model-specific diagram.

Check accessible labels first. Avoid moving a heavy appliance or removing a service panel just to read a number. Find your complete model →

Formats covered

These rules cover selected North American kitchen and laundry appliances. A recognized prefix identifies a manufacturer family; it does not verify that a model exists or that a particular part fits.

Reviewed Kenmore prefixes and date rules
Manufacturer familyModel prefixesDate information
Whirlpool106, 110, 665Year code + production week; one- or two-letter location code.
GE362, 363Month letter + repeating year letter; two letters, six digits, one final letter.
LG795, 796First three digits: year-ending digit + month. Decade unknown.
Frigidaire / Electrolux family253, 417, 587, 790, C970Ten-character serial: third character gives year-ending digit; next two give week.

Prefixes 401 (Samsung), 630 (Bosch) and 596 (Amana) identify the manufacturer only. Their date formats are not decoded here. Unlisted prefixes, historical variants, HVAC, water heaters and microwaves require a separate source. Canadian C970 is treated explicitly; other Canadian prefixes are not converted into US prefixes.

What the result means

Why does my serial have more than one possible year?

Manufacturers reuse year codes. The tool shows the reviewed table’s past or current candidates, or a year-ending digit when the decade is missing. It does not select the newest year or infer a decade from a model name. Ask manufacturer support to reconcile the full label when the date is uncertain.

Can I find a replacement part using only the serial?

Use the complete appliance model for the initial part search. A serial may help a retailer resolve a production change, but its date does not establish compatibility. FitCertain’s part results remain based on documented complete-model matches.

What if the model or serial is not recognized?

Check every character and the label field names. An unsupported result means our reviewed rules do not cover that prefix or format; it does not mean your appliance is invalid. You can still search the full model or prepare a fit-check request.

Is the result an exact age or warranty check?

No. A month or production week may narrow the date, but repeated codes can leave the year unresolved. Purchase date, warranty eligibility and repair value are separate questions. Confirm the manufacture date from the label or manufacturer records.

Rule sources

The manufacturer-prefix table and three date guides are published by parts retailer Parts Dr. GE supplies its own date-code table. These are references, not an individual appliance’s manufacturing record.

  3. GE Appliances — manufacture date from a serial number ↗
  4. Parts Dr — LG appliance date codes ↗

Whirlpool’s J code is left unresolved: the guide’s CJ3408220 example says 1999, while its chart image prints 1998. The tool can read the week but asks you to confirm the year from the label or manufacturer records.
